How to: Remove the computer cover.
Solution:
Turn off the computer and all its components. Disconnect and remove all cables. Remove all screws along the top and side edges of the back of the computer, and slide the cover off.
NOTE 1: On some newer models, it is necessary to remove the computer face plate cover and slide the computer cover forward.
NOTE 2: The following are general guidelines for removing the computer cover. For exact instructions on removing the computer cover, please consult the manual that came with the computer.
1) Turn off the computer and all its components.
2) Unplug the computer from the electrical outlet.
WARNING: Make sure that ALL of the components are turned off and unplugged.
3) Remove all cables and cords from the back of the computer:
a) Check all cables and cords for screws or finger-screw connectors. Unscrew all the connectors.
b) Note the location of cables and cords as they are removed from the back of the computer.
NOTE: If necessary, label the cables and cords to remember where they attach.
CAUTION: To avoid damage, DO NOT force or bend any cables or connectors.
4) Remove the screws from the top and side edges of the back of the computer, and store the screws together in a safe location.
NOTE: Newer computers may not have any screws holding down the computer cover.
5) Grasp the sides of the computer cover with both hands. Gently and slowly remove the cover. Set the computer cover aside.
CAUTION: Watch carefully to make sure parts of the cover do not catch on any cables or ribbons as the cover is being removed.
6) Dissipate any static electricity by touching the metal chassis with a finger.
CAUTION: When dealing with any internal components, wear a wrist strap to prevent Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) damage.
